At the ENC conference today the European eLoran Forum released a new report entitled “eLoran: Securing Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) for Europe’s Future”. It can be downloaded here with appendices available upon request to R&RNAV@thls.org.

At a first glance the report seems to make the case that PNT is essential for Europe’s future economic well being and that we need to ensure that it is not dependent upon GNSS alone. It would seem that the forum is pushing for GPS+Galileo+eLoran as a future PNT solution for what they term ‘critical infrastructure’.

It will be interesting to see what is made of the report in light of yesterdays announcement by the EC that the European RadioNavigation Plan (ERNP) is to be revisited later this year.

is eloran really very much superior GPS or GNSSS or any other navigation system??

Not superior, just complementary. It helps to mitigate against the loss of GNSS in those critical applications that we can’t afford to do without.
